Style Stories No. 20: Combat Boots All Week

I LOVE the items I pick up at secondhand swaps. For example, these Zara boots, still on sale on the site for $114, I picked up for under $13!! And they had never been worn; they were basically brand spankin’ new! To add my personal touch to them, I swapped out the black laces and added these red cord ones. This way they’ve been personalized to Annie Style! I was determined to wear them all week long, figuring out the best way to wear them. Below are five outfit pictures, Monday through Friday, yet they’ve been placed from 1st to last. Which look is your favorite?

1st Place: Friday

On Friday, after wearing the boots all week long, I finally got what I was after: cozy comfort and cute all at once. Even though I refuse to wear my work’s slogan polo shirt, I’ll still sport the school colors–it’s just to my style. Here I’ve embraced the school colors: navy, red, and white. I’ve worn a slogan tee that will not offend (wait till last place!). And my slogan is definitely a saying I can get around; “HAPPY” pretty much describes me to a T.

2nd Place: Monday

I really like how my combat boots look with these black pants. I’m happy to say I’m in one size smaller than before. See, I originally bought these pants in two sizes; the larger pair are threadbare, so I had to give them away. I wish I could still purchase these Who What Wear black trousers from Target because they are a goodie. The color combo of red with black is something I’ve been wearing since fourth grade when my mom dressed me in black Bermudas, a white shirt, and a red, black, and white tie! (There’s proof somewhere in an ancient school picture!)

3rd Place: Thursday

I’m getting super great mileage out of my father-in-law’s silk shirt. It was featured in my last Style Story No. 19, and that week it was a favorite as well. This time around I went for an untucked look to contrast the mini of the skirt. I’m hoping when I lose a few more lbs., that this skirt gains at least an inch if it sits lower on my waist. We’ll see… I’m thinking I probably need to wear black tights with this mini.

4th Place: Tuesday

My idea was good here, but I don’t know if it works… I’m talking about the snake belt. On the one hand I think it mimicks one of the lines in the paisley striped pants, but then on the other, maybe the belt doesn’t work at all. I am not sure. What do you think? Is it the top? Maybe something less preppy and more edgy would have made the belt work better. At any rate, wearing these silky pants is like wearing a pair of pajamas to work. They are super comfy!

Last Place: Wednesday!

Oh! This outfit was such a fail!! And I chose not to show why here on the blog. Basically, I’m wearing a slogan tee that says, “LUCKY.” But…. when the kimono hits just right with the “L” and the “Y” covered up, it looks like “UCK.” And I’ll let you imagine what “UCK” looks like…! Add to the day that I saw both my head of school and assistant head of school, and I felt quite silly when I realized my fashion faux-pas! Oh well. You win some; you lose some, and with this one I lost!!

What is your favorite way I styled my combat boots?
