Style Stories No. 21: Slip Skirts

This week–despite its harrowing turn of events causing no students at school Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday–I decided to wear slip skirts. I own four, so one of them was doubled up. There’s something odd about a slip skirt for me… I can’t quite put my finger on it. I just usually feel a little awkward in a slip skirt. It might be the length or maybe how curvy they make me feel. At any rate, I gave slip skirts a shot all week long, and I ended up pretty pleased with my looks.

Monday

This is my lavender slip skirt I picked up from Targé this summer. I grabbed a Grateful Dead band tee and threw my floral jean jacket over my shoulders. The weather this week was actually chilly enough for that extra light layer. I wore my dirtied up Air Force Ones and began my slip skirt week off on the right start.

Tuesday

This leopard slip skirt was another TargĂ© purchase from the summer. I wanted to try a hoodie with a slip skirt, so I figured my California Republic sweatshirt was the perfect choice. To add a bit of edge, and attempt to wear something other than sneakers, I wore my secondhand (but in brand spankin’ new condition) studded gold booties. I was hoping this choice dressed up the casualness of the hoodie.

Wednesday

On this day, there were no students at school because of the chaotic and very distressing state of Hong Kong. Despite the fact that I could have seriously dressed down for this day, I decided to forge ahead with my slip skirt week. This time I pulled out my H&M snake print version. By now I had searched up “slip skirt outfits” on Pinterest. I was pleasantly surprised by how many Converse sneakers had been paired with slip skirts in general, so I gave it a try. This chenille fisherman sweater is a favorite of mine. It was one of those Forever 21 simple pickups. On this day I am the one who styled my hair–it’s got so much more bounce and volume which I actually don’t like. I prefer the sleek salon styled hair, but I have no idea how to get it like that!

Thursday

Since I only have four slip skirts, I knew I’d have to wear one twice in a week. Don’t get me wrong: I am not against this. Plus, it gave me a chance to see if I could do a little better the second time around, and I think I did. I wanted to pull out my white cowboy boots, so a white peasant top seemed like the perfect match to my yeehaw soles.

Friday

I saved my red slip skirt for Friday. Another Pinterest image I found was of this very simple outfit of a bright red slip skirt with a tied white shirt. (Her version is way more cropped and sexy, but I’m a high school librarian! Even if there are no kids at school, there’s no way I’d dress like that at work!) I’m a copy cat! What can say? When it came to choosing shoes, I had planned on wearing some red, white, and blue ones, but in the end I opted for some animal pack–and zebra, cheetah, and so on…
