May Day

It’s May Day! These pictures were taken a week or two ago–before I went in for surgery last Friday. I can remember the sun was out–which has been quite rare these days in Hong Kong. I have special coupons from my daughter: on my birthday she gave me these wonderful coupons for photoshoots (four of them), spa days, and daughter day dates. For this wonderfully sunny afternoon, I pulled out a coupon and off to the rocks we went as the sun was setting over Stanley, Hong Kong.

I can remember May Day being an important day as a kid. In fact, I mark this day more as the first day of spring than March 21st. Let’s be real: spring never arrives this early–at least not anywhere that I know about. Growing up in Spokane, Washington, there was still tons of snow on the ground in March. Here in Hong Kong our colder temps still linger. May Day on the other hand, spring has definitely arrived by May 1st!

I grew up going to a parochial grade school. We would always make some sort of special flower gift for our mothers on this May Day. That’s also perhaps why I consider it more of a spring holiday since it was a much more special day than March 21st ever was.

This outfit doesn’t necessarily match a May Day outfit, but it’s what I have. It’s actually the last photos I have of myself in a styled outfit, so I’m not sure which direction May will bring. I’ll find one though. I do know that this outfit is a repeat here on Kremb de la Kremb. I already have a white flowy dress similar to this one, and I’ve already styled it over jeans. However, the great thing about this new one is it’s fresh white; my old one is turning that dirgy white color that happens from the Hong Kong wash. Perhaps it’s time to tea stain the old one… or just really embrace my new one!

Happy May Day!

I hope spring has finally reached your neck of the woods!
