Wearing a Holiday White Dress with Sneakers

Back in 2000, Kevin and I were luck to celebrate that New Year in Rio De Janiero with our good friend Rusty. The Brazilians have many special traditions for celebrating this once a year night. The main tradition is that everyone must wear white. Ever since then, I like to embrace this clothing ritual and wear white for bringing in the New Year. On that night back in 1999 the entire coastline of Rio was covered with people in white. It was spectacular!

There were other things we had to do like jump over 7 waves for example. We also had to dig a hole, place a white flower with votive inside, and make a wish. Oh, champagne drinking was also a part of the festivities, yet we were buzzed from all the people and fireworks instead. There must have been a dozen or more synchronized firework displays all up the coastline. Admittedly Kevin and I have been very lucky with our lifestyle choice and have been able to travel extensively. If given a chance, if you can, I highly recommend bringing a new year in Brazil some time in your life. Add it to the bucket list!

This year we will celebrate the New Year in Bali with Kevin’s folks. They arrive tonight! And for the holiday, I’ll be wearing this white dress with sneakers. I’m sticking to wearing holiday clothes with sneakers as I have each Wednesday in December. It is entirely possible to feel dressed up in sneakers. This Zara white dress was a complete score this last month at the Get Redressed Pop Up. I think I paid $50 HKD which is equivalent to $6 USD! Score indeed!!

Now, do you remember a while ago? There was a buckled black blazer I tried styling with nothing underneath but I wore the wrong bra? Well, this is the RIGHT bra! I don’t know how it does it, but it keeps my breasts completely separated. I believe I need this bra in every color! Too bad it’s no longer being made–I’d share a link, but I want to hog all the rest for myself!

These pictures were taken on the north western coast of Bali at a place called Waka Ganngga. For Christmas we left the hustle and bustle of all of the southern coastline. Kevin found the most lovely resort remotely tucked away on this grey beach. We had a two villa suite with an outdoor cabana and our own little pool. It was beyond lovely and such a special place to celebrate Christmas with just the four of us.

Now on to New Years in my white dress with sneakers!

Enjoy the remaining few days of 2018!
