The Fab 40s are BACK! In Velvet

velvet

The Fab 40s have taken a little four month break, but we’re back, in VELVET! I’m no stranger to the velvet love. In fact, last spring I compiled all the velvet looks I’d created in one single post; there were eight looks in total! Since that post, I’ve continued to add velvet to my closet–here are my green velvet joggers (I got rid of the cami), my blush velvet sweater, my navy turtleneck, and last but not least my pink velvet sneakers. Do I have a thing for velvet? Why yes I do! This blush dress is my newest addition. I especially liked that it could be worn in the tropics. I figured this winter fabric shouldn’t be limited to cold weather, and indeed, this wrap dress was the perfect New Year’s Eve dress!

Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots

I’ve missed my Fab 40s friends. The break was nice, but the comfort of collaborating with these women each month is much preferred. Jennie chose velvet this month–and for a good reason. We ALL want her floral, navy, velvet suit. It’s on major sale now at the Loft, and she’s invited us all to copy her! She chose velvet for a very good reason, don’t you think!? Also, I love how when I look back at all our Fab 40s post, Jennie is a chameleon with her hair. This color is super fantastic in my opinion!

Suzie Turner

I have two very faithful readers who consistently read each one of my posts and comment: Suzy Turner is one of them, and I am so thankful for her. She is so supportive of me, and I am not quite sure if she knows just how grateful I am for her blogger love. Now she will! Her blog is definitely worthy of adding to your list of reads. Her recent lingerie post is my favorite (you rock it Suzy!), and all the pictures of her in this $6 dollar green velvet (Forever 41) dress will have you swooning. Wow Suzy!

Sheela Writes

When Sheela wrote us a little over a month ago if we were all interested in getting our Fab 40s started again, there wasn’t a one of us who didn’t agree. We were all in. And we needed our fearless leader back at the helm. The force known as Sheela is back! (With a kick ass pair of shoes no less! We know we will always be able to count on Sheela in this arena.)

Curly Byrdie Chirps

Mary’s velvet bootie socks rival Sheela’s in this instance–not to mention Jennie’s purple pumps too. But the star of the show is this stunning pink dress. Mary and her dresses, I’ve missed them. Mary, you could rock a potato sack I am sure of that! And I still would love to be a fly in your dress closet!

The Fab 40s–We’re Back!!

Are you as happy as I am?

The Fab 40s in Leather and Lace

Kremb de la Kremb Leather and Lace 2With the last Monday of every month, you can count on a Fab 40s post, and this month’s theme we’re all donning some leather and lace! Lately, there are two colors I’ve been into–green and blush. In fact, this week I plan for all blushing posts (insert two blushing emojis with waving hands). Originally, I thought of a favorite outfit from last winter: my cream lace top with my black (p)leather joggers. But then, with this blush color being on the forefront of my ootd rotation, I opted for this styling. Plus, the weather in Hong Kong hasn’t chilled yet–uh oh. Knock on wood because now that that’s been written it will probably become really, really cold, and when it’s cold outside, it’s the same temp indoors. For this post though, I was basking in the sun on the boardwalk enjoying the blues of my Stanley, Hong Kong neighborhood in some blushing leather and lace with some denim accents. And yes, that includes a fanny pack, op I mean waist belt (for my international readers), thank you very much! (Just like the mullet that I swept back into a pony tail, these little buggers sure get a bad wrap–no pun intended!)

IMG_3497Mary, I love TargĂ©: what a score with that skirt!! And those boots–serious envy for those and Target options. Hey, now I’m inserting the green snake emoji. Heehe. I love the way you styled this month’s theme with accents of snake, and the theme was a good one. Thank you!

Kimberly at The Haute Life Now

IMG_3495Mary invited Kimberly from The Haute Life Now. I cannot believe Kimberly has four kids! You are one hot mama if I do say so myself. AND, more importantly, I love that you are rocking a crop top. I’m the same; I insist on wearing them with the high waist. However, I can’t pull it off nearly as gracefully as you. You look amazing and glamorous. Welcome to the Fab 40s this month Kimberly!!

Diane from Fashion on the 4th Floor

IMG_3496Oh wow Diane! I almost thought of wearing my cream lace top with my (p)leather shorts. We would have almost been twins–yet I’d be in sneakers which I know you also quite possibly could have chosen. Diane, I love your legs! I know I get complimented for mine too, but yours are strong for real. You look elegant and healthy all at once. What a beautiful look on you!

Jennie at A Pocketful of Polka Dots

IMG_3494Jennie, your preppiness is changing so much, yet it’s still the same. There’s such a fun quirky edge these days to all your stylings. I love it! Only you could create such rockerish preppy looks: coated denim with polka dots! Of course!! And your hair….it’s just so cool. Also, Jennie, can we swap clutches? That one is fabulous!

Samantha from Fake Fabulous

IMG_3491Samantha your hair is getting so long. It’s so cute and fresh. As I write I’ve chopped my mullet off, so now I’ll be following all your growing out a pixie tips. Also, hmmm…this top! I really, really like it. I love that your shoes and sweatshirt are almost one in the same. So cool. Plus, the fur ball additions–perfect tough. Basically, you are just cool. There. I wrote it down. (Like I haven’t already before!! I’m full of emojis today, so I give you the sunglass emoji for sure!)

Veronica from Cid Style File

IMG_3488Uh oh, I’m giving out the wrong emojis–you literally need the sunglass one Vero with the guitar too because you ROCK! Seriously. This is such a bad@ss outfit, yet you are wearing a dress! This styling is fantastic–never can one go wrong with all black with gold accents and a moto leather jacket. It’s time for me to pull mine out. And I just picked up a super H&M score, so I do think I will try to copy you with this entire outfit. (I’ll tag you when I do.) Although, you know me, I’ll probably have to pull out some tennies–wait till you see my emoji ones. (No, I am NOT joking! I have a pair….)

Sheela at Sheela Writes” target=”_blank”>Sheela Writes

IMG_3490Queen She. I did save you for last. You reign over us all. I think that’s all I can say. You took my favorite color, blush, yet elevated it. All of us can only look to you for cues on how to be better. ‘Nuff said. Oh, and the queen emoji for you. (I just had to hand one more out!)

Me, Kremb de la Kremb

Kremb de la Kremb Leather and Lace 3Then there’s me. I swear after commenting on all these fabulous ladies’ interpretations of leather and lace, I kind of feel like the immature kid of the group. I mean, even my shoes are from the girls’ department. Hmmm….is it time for me to grow up? I doubt I could even if I tried. SMIRK!!

Now, do go visit The Fab 40s!

The Fab 40s in Hats

kremb-de-la-kremb-hat-6
Oh September! You are a blur for all of us Fab 40s. Vero chose such a great and very different theme for us this month: hats. The Fab 40s always post on the last Monday of the month, yet I was definitely caught by surprise with the somewhat early September date. I picked up this turban hat over a month ago. I thought–ooh, this will be a nice switch from my usual winter beanie. Also, my hair, my very boofy hair, has become so out of control. Tying it down with a scarf also seems to help…. When Vero called the theme as hats this month, I thought, “Sweet! I can try out my turban.” Easier said than styled…I really wasn’t sure what to do with it, so I called for my inner, urban gypsy. I added a pin to the turban–obviously, and then I added lots of gold baubles. I attempted to wear my sleeveless (DIY) black blazer with nothing underneath; I think it worked buttoned up. Also, for some reason, post hip replacement surgery, I’ve put on a couple of lbs; therefore, I opted for my stand by, every day worn, Wrangler cutoffs. I swear: these shorts have exceeded their cost per wear which was like $10 USD! Since I was drenched in lots of gold, I chose my rose gold tennies–another item that is on constant repeat these days. I am not embarrassed to admit I have twenty pair (maybe over!) of sneakers. Personal style is forever evolving, and mine is definitely headed toward the sporty chic these days with my daily wear of tennis shoes. Some people can wear hats with such ease. I have to admit, for how OTT (over-the-top) I am with my style most days, I do feel loud in a hat–like they draw too much attention to me. Isn’t that funny considering some of the outlandish getups I come up with. How about you? Are you a hat person? Some people just are.

I think Sam might be hat wearers in real life. What do you think? Also, I gave her that skirt! Doesn’t it look great on her!?

The Fab 40s in Boho

Kremb de la Kremb Boho
Jennie from A Pocket Full of Polka Dots called boho for this month’s Fab 40s’ theme. Of course I was super excited to hear this theme because let’s face it: I’m definitely a bit bohemian in my style. I am a sucker for anything with a cultural aesthetic especially when it comes to colorful tassels, intricate embroidery, or paisley patterns. The thing is when I started to figure out how to style an outfit for this post, I got a little nervous. I could totally overdo my bohemian style–kinda like this Coachella inspired look or this whimsical LRD (little red dress). For some reason, since I claim myself to be a little boho, I was scared to appear OTT (over the top) as I am sometimes referred. So, for this look, I just dressed as if it was a normal Saturday. Perhaps I would go shopping in town for the day. Because usually for every day, I add a little touch of bohemian to my look whether it’s with tassels, fringe, lace, or cutoff denim, there’s always a little something hippy chic to my style.

Generally Jennie is our petite, classy, and preppy rep. She really wanted to challenge herself with the boho theme. In my opinion, her entire looks seems pretty effortless. She nailed boho chic–utterly and completely. And she still looks super cute. Nice job Jennie! And what a fun theme for all of us. See more of Jennie’s classy style over at A Pocketful of Polka Dots.

Daenel from Living Outside of the Stacks

Fab 40s Bohemian Theme Floral Dress Brown Skirt and Brown Wedges {living outside the stacks}
Jennie not only named our theme this month, but she also invited Daenel from Living Outside of the Stacks–and yes, she’s referring to the library stacks. Daenel is a fellow librarian! Yay for that!! Also, Daenel knows how to wear bohemian. I love the pettticoat layer she has going on underneath her neutral floral wrap dress.

Sheela of Sheela Writes

DSC_0191
Queen She–as I’ve started to call my good friend Sheela, really surprised me with this look. The floppy hat, fringe bag, dress as tunic with a kimono layer, well it’s no surprise she looks like she hangs with the Olsen twins. What I do adore about Sheela’s styling here is that she still as the funky as heck heels thrown it.

Mary of Curly Bird Chirps

DSC_0855 (2)
It’s pretty unanimous and it might become official: Mary is the expert with dresses. Each and every time she just kills the look with a new and different dress. And now with the boho theme this one might just be my favorite. The blue color and the fabric’s pattern are just stunning.

Samantha of Fake Fabulous

Sam
Samantha always has it goin’ on! She is seriously a chameleon of style. She layers like no one’s business and can adapt to each style’s theme with ease. My favorite part of Sam’s styling are those lovely layered necklaces. I know there is a style story behind each one. I feel like I could sit on her patio and listen to the stories behind them all….

Diane from Fashion on the 4th Floor

IMG_1071
Simply put, Diane is just cool. Look how sleek she is here. With legs for days, she’s rockin’ those flares. Her muted color choices are boho in of themselves. Are you wondering if she really did attend Coachella alongside the other glamorous bloggers? I am!!

Dawn Lucy from Fashion Should Be Fun

dawnlucybohoDSC_0077_172
Dawn Lucy, we are going to miss you so much. Jennie really did choose the best theme for your final Fab 40s post. You have always been a boho style inspiration for me in each of your style posts. You seem quite similar to me in that there’s usually some touch of bohemian in your sartorial choices. DL, all the best to you next month as you turn 50 and enter into even more amazing style–because that’s what you have no matter what your age. Luckily, Fashion Should be Fun isn’t too far away! It’s been so wonderful getting to know you!

And me from Kremb de la Kremb!

Kremb de la Kremb Boho
I grabbed my new off the shoulder black top and paired it with my DIYed cutoff denim skirt. I wore two embellished items that I made myself: fringe sandals and a tassel bag. To include a little India to my look I added my Ganesha silver earrings. And finally, I just wore some funky mirrored aviator styled sunnies that I picked up in Boracay, Philippines. Do I look subtely boho to you? I hope so! I really didn’t want to over do it–which if you looked at my wardrobe would be totally possible!
