The Other Uniform: Black Bodysuits with Denim

Last week I demonstrated one of my uniforms: a white tops with jean shorts on Monday and a flowy white top with jeans on Wednesday. This week I shall do the same with another one of my uniforms: black bodysuits with denim. However, let me first reminisce. Back on April 1, @jessbobess posted this picture. I was instantly enamored with her black bodysuit with denim–acid wash to be more specific, and I have faithfully been copying her look all spring, summer and now fall. I can’t get enough of this outfit. On Friday night I wore this top with jeans to dinner and then to see live music; on Sunday I wore this top with my cutoffs to a barbecue at a friend’s house. Yes, it’s another bodysuit (you may remember these three from Friday, but this black bodysuit is totally comfortable–I got an XL so it’s nice an roomy, there are no snaps in the crotch, it’s super soft, and last but not least, I simply wear a normal black bra and just tuck the left shoulder strap into my armpit area. If you were going to venture out into the bodysuit arena, this black bodysuit is the one to start with. Stay tuned for Wednesday when I basically wear Jess’ entire outfit!

*Here’s my exact black bodysuit. Like I mentioned I got an XL, and I love that it’s just a bit roomier–it’s not tight at all. If you prefer to have the one asymmetrical shoulder on the left, there’s also this version.

What is more of your staple? Black with denim or white with denim?
Stay tuned for Wednesday when I style a one long sleeve, asymmetrical, black bodysuit with jeans.

  1. I’m loving the the one with the full sleeve on only one side. I’m thinking that it might feel a bit weird if you’re wearing it in cooler weather.
It’s funny how we become completely smitten by a particular look created by a piece of clothing. I guess that’s why I hear the word “obsessed” so often in the fashion world. I’ve been there for sure.
Confession: My husband has wanted to retire in the Black Hills of South Dakota since early in our marriage. After we bought our first property in the Southern hills I started noticing and appreciating clothing that reflected a “Western” vibe. That started mostly with an admiration for the designs of Ralph Lauren. Over the last 10 years I have slowly acquired, mostly through thrifting and consignment, quite a collection of jackets, shirts, coats, vests, boots, jewelry, hats etc. that reflect a western look. This obsession is unique but I’ve had many that reflect a miriad of styles. SO FUN!!!!
I love the look of black with faded denim. You look cute, on trend and sexy in this outfit Ann!

    1. Oh I love country western attire. This Sunday I got the best little cowboy booties ever. It was a second hand market/fair–those rarely happen here in Hong Kong, so when they do, I am always in full attendance. Anyway, I bought a pair of little black cowboy booties–they’re a bit big, but I figured I could put in an insole. Also, they’d never been worn, so they’re like brand new for $20 bucks. Win–even if they didn’t fit perfectly. The best part–they’re dressy with an almost heel. They aren’t sneakers! Yay! I’ll give you a shout out when they make an appearance Jude.

      Much love,

      Ann

    2. Well it’s kind of perfect–at least for Hong Kong. Half the time you’re hot if you’re outside, and the other half of the time you’re cold because of the AC. Win win for HK temps.
