The Fab 40s in Goth

Goth 1
I might have taken the theme to far this time! Dawn Lucy chose goth for The Fab 40s theme, and I think I maybe took it to literally. I mean I even pierced my septum for this one! Just kidding. I did not, but it was fun finding a fake one to wear. Shopping for me is half the fun. I didn’t want to purchase any more black–I’ve got plenty of that, but I did add the septum ring and black ribbon for effect. For me it was the perfect reason to try my stab at shopping again down in my favorite part of the city: Causeway Bay. I even asked a stranger to get a pic of me down in the hustle and bustle.

Dawn Lucy also invited Gracey from Fashion for Giants. Gracey isn’t a real giant of course, but she is very tall and plus sized. She does a great job of demonstrating style regardless of height or size. She admits the struggle of being a larger woman is real, but it is not stopping her sartorial statements! Make sure to check out her blog. Welcome to The Fab 40s this month Gracey!

I love how Sheela also took this theme quite literally. Don’t we look like we should be sulking together in an alley somewhere. Which makes me ask, am I misplacing angst with goth?

In my life, I did actually go through a very brief goth period. It didn’t last long. Back in 1990, I was so excited to be starting my life in the big city of Seattle. I used to take the bus all over that place, and one of my favorite places to hang out was the Ave in the University District. Eventually however, I conformed. I had pledged a sorority; that meant preppy was going to replace any black in my edgy wardrobe. It’s all good though. Every bit of life’s pathway has influenced my sartorial decisions.

  1. OMG! I love this…you look like a stroppy teenager. In fact, your skin looks so great that you actually DO look teenaged!! I can almost imagine you giving me a mouthful of attitude before storming off (and slamming the door in your wake!). Brilliant!
I still have my nose piercing…I just can’t let it go, despite being in my forties and I used to have others….so much fun! I didn’t do the “goth” thing when I was younger. I was a rave-chic! All lycra hotpants, chunky boots (with serious hardwear and laces), whistles and glowsticks!
    Happy memories.
Great post (loads of fun) and my youngest thinks you are “awesome”

  2. All of you look great in your goth looks for Halloween, Ann. I love yours, especially that you broke it with a little color by that fabulous graphic clutch (and looks it has orange). I have a fabulous graphic clutch with some orange, on my post today, also. 😉 I must say I love that lace top (is it cropped?) And those OTK socks are just fab!!

    Happy Halloween Dear!

  3. I was completely a punk child/teen. Depeche Mode and Madonna were my style icons (Madge still is to this today), with wee doses of goth here and there. I had a wild time with this theme (thank you, Dawn Lucy) and would happily go skulk off in the alley with ya any day, you wild child you.

  4. Ha! I also had a Goth period in the 90’s, but my lasted for about 4 years! I do like to throw a Goth outfit every now and then! You all look fabulous, but most importantly, Ann, that bag! Where did you get such a Foxy bag?! I absolutely adore accessories with foxes right now. It is totally my foxy thing! And your bag is completely adorable!

  5. I love your skirt!! I missed the goth phase growing up. I think I was too bubble gum pop princess. lol I would rock that skirt though. 🙂 Thanks for linking up for Style Saturday. xo~ Megan

  6. Hhahaha! This comment cracks me up! My daughter is 12 and has yet to declare fashion interests. I’m just waiting patiently–I think it will happen. And I’m so curious how it will go! Thanks for stopping by and commenting Laurie! Love, Ann

  7. Love these looks! I actaully used to wear all black in college. I was a muscian, guitarist, so thats what we did. that and played in a band. but Ann, there is no black lipstick I think here and black punked out hair. So, I love the lace top and am a big fan of OTK socks with boots! Great look

Thanks for linking up with Turning Heads Tuesday!
