Culottes, Culottes for Sale: The Fab 40s in Culottes

“Culottes, culottes for sale, fifty cents a culotte!” Silly me, but for some reason the famous children’s’ book Caps For Sale came to my mind for today’s collaboration with The Fab 40s. I used to read that book to my kiddos over and over, and they would laugh at those silly monkeys every time. I guess the other reason that book came to mind is I own so many pairs of culottes–at least a dozen or more, and I am not kidding. So when Sheela called this month’s collab theme with culottes, I didn’t know which way to go. I felt like the monkeys!

Ironically the weekend before Sheela called the theme, I had shot these pics with Gigi. I was testing out the creation of a polka dot suit–neither the blazer nor the culottes came together with the blazer being a pick up from an end of season Zara sale and the culottes being a necessity for travel. In my opinion culottes are the perfect item for traveling, and that may be why I have so many. While traveling in Asia there are times when the Buddhist temples require the knees to be covered, and culottes are by far the most comfortable pant to wear in humid Asia.

Last week I tried out a polka dot tee with gingham skirt and polka dot sneakers. Here in this post again I’ve tried out head to toe polka dots–luckily I did not own the sneakers yet! (They are only $10 Jennie. You must buy them!) I need to share the inspiration for all of this over the top polka dot fixation: this editorial found here, here, and here. When I see something, it gets stuck in my head, and I have to give it a try–hence these pics found in this post and the other ones found here from last week.

Enough of me! Let’s look at the other Fab 40s in culottes. Let’s see what they’re up to…

Sheela

Sheela and I are almost twinning–not quite, but almost. Great minds think alike. Wink wink. Although we all know I’d be stumbling in her boots. I mean look at them. The heels are see through! Serious Wonder Woman action goin’ on here!

Kim

Sheela’s given me cause for a new crush. She invited Kim Mitchell from J’adore Couture. Oh my! There are so many great things about this fashion blogger I’m just going to list them: legs, heels and sneakers, masculine and feminine, basically just super, super chic style. Ok, and there’s one more thing that has me absolutely gushing over Kim…. She works in the fashion industry! Ahhh, to actually work for Banana Republic–I can’t even imagine. Oh, and her pictures are gorgreous! Yep. Basically I’m smitten. I love finding new bloggers to be inspired by and J’Adore Couture is one of those blogs that has quickly joined the favorite list.

Jennie

Out of all of our culottes, Jennie’s are my favorite. They’re so cute! She got them at the Loft, and I’ve checked. They still have them for $20! Unfortunately they come only in petite in sizes 2, 4, 6, and 8. So, if you fit that bill, head on over because these culottes are adorable!

Mary

What a cute jumpsuit on Mary, but my favorite part of her outfit is that cute doctor’s bag purse. Hmmm, a little #diyinspo eh with all those cute flowers? Can you believe it’s from Payless? I’m so out of touch from American pop culture–it’s by Christian Serriano who is a designer from Project Runway. (Embarrassingly enough, I had to Google all of this.)

Suzy

I almost retook my pictures for this post in my new denim culottes (which will be featured here soon). They look a lot like Suzy’s but without her cool front zipper detail. I’d been looking and looking and finally just recently found the perfect pair from Zara. Suzy’s are also perfect–especially paired with fringe and turquoise. Awww, and that pool… it’s almost summer. Almost.

And me!

In terms of accessories, I always like to throw a little red into a black and white mix. I don’t always, but it almost seems necessary to me. I wonder why that is….? The red koi behind me is a pretty cute touch of red though. This is a fantastic garage shutter for one of the shops in the Stanley Market where I live. I love this graffiti artwork. It’s one of my favorites in the market.

Do you like my outfit with or without the blazer? I’m just curious…

Can you believe that many of these women felt the a struggle to wear culottes? You’d hardly know that from all the impeccable stylings here. What about you?

Do you wear culottes?

Or do you struggle with this pant style?
