I Wear Short Shorts–Even If I Shouldn’t!

It’s true! I wear short shorts–even if I shouldn’t be. I’ve heard it said that a woman should find one thing about herself that she likes and then go with it. For me, it’s always been my legs. Unfortunately, along with the rest of my bod, they too are starting to look a bit old. But, I don’t care! I’m still going to wear short shorts!! I’m ageing. My body is ageing. For some reason, I don’t feel like letting that stop me….

All this week I’ve got three short shorts posts (say that three times!) ready for publishing. I promise not to retouch my legs–yes, I will admit to sometimes softening the cellulite up now and then or healing out that big age spot above my right knee. But this week, I promise not to; I won’t “Facetune” a bit! (I guess this is an admission that yes, I sometimes do! 🙊)

It’s funny… It’s not like I can “Facetune” my way through a day when I wear short shorts. I actually just don’t care. I like to imagine my legs are still my best feature, and I think as I’m aging, they just might be–all of me is getting dimply and wrinkly. Granted the way I see my legs is they’re getting wrinkly above the knees, and I’ve got cellulite any way I look at them, but I honestly don’t give a darn. When I see the back of my legs, they’re quite dimply. But it’s not stopping me from a short hemline. It’s been engraved in my head that I like my legs, so despite their weakness, their wrinkles, and their bumps, I still like my legs.

Here’s the atrophy in my left leg. It’s actually surprising that I still like my legs considering how much they literally fail me. This left knee has received three surgeries–one ACL repair in 1995 and an arthroscopic scope in 2000 and 2005. My other knee has only received one surgery, but the right side is the side that has a hip replacement. While my right hip is great, it’s my right hip flexor that causes me all sorts of grief. The pain actually extends from the hip flexor into my sacroiliac joint. (I was actually out last Friday from work because of it!) These continual ailments make exercise difficult. However, this summer, out at the lake cabin, I plan to swim and bike often. Perhaps I could even get back to walking as the trails behind our cabin are the best. Oh, it’s pure bliss out there in the midst of the Pacific Northwest nature–just enough to distract from any body issues!

There they are–my dimply, rather scrawny legs. But I don’t care. The dimples and wrinkles, the atrophy and scars, they’re not stopping me!

I wear short shorts!

Call me crazy, but in my mind, I’m going to try to love these gams for all my days–no matter what they look like and how the under perform!

So basically, this week, the point of my posts will be for women to find at least one thing they like about themselves. And then EMBRACE IT! For me, it’s my legs.

What is it for you?
