PON, Part I

The Parade of Nations is coming up at ASB. The Parade of Nations, referred to now as PON, used to be known as FON, the Festival of Nations. But that’s all history stuff. The main point of this post is to tell of Vincent’s maturity.

Each year, the ASB child decides which nation they will walk with across the stage to celebrate their country. Our own kids are rapidly being described as TCKs–or in other words “Third Culture Kids.” They were born of American parents in Venezuela yet live in India (for most of their life) and will move to China real soon. This could make for an issue in identity, yet PON at ASB helps celebrate our children’s diversity.

Last year, and the years before that, the kids have always walked with USA. However, Gigi wanted to walk with India last year, but in the end decided to walk for USA with her brother. It was determined last year, that this year Gigi would decide for which country they would both walk. Gigi, living most of her life in India, would like to walk with India. Although Vincent hasn’t wanted to, this morning he told Gigi that he would indeed walk with her for India.

I document Vincent’s growth in maturity through this post. I’ve also included some photos from our first September here in Bombay back on Gandhi’s Day in 2004 to celebrate physical growth.

Gigi's just about 1 here, and Vincent would be just about 2 1/2.
