The History of My Wrap Coat

I have a very wonderful friend named Caron. She is the epitome of a classic beauty: with her tall and sleek stature, waist length strawberry blond hair, and both flawless figure and face, she’s a glamorous woman to admire. And, she’s my friend! A really good one actually. So I know her beauty runs deep. She’s like an older sister to me.

Caron first gave me this wrap coat when we visited her and her husband when they lived in Bangkok. It was perfect for Beijing’s grey weather, and she certainly didn’t need it in that sweaty city. I was very happy for this hand-me-down and gave it a very good home in the cold winter weather of Beijing.

I continued to pull it out here and there in Hong Kong but not nearly as much. It was originally a Zara coat, and it was beginning to show its wear with some pilled effects on the fabric. With a trip this fall to Shanghai, I figured this was the perfect time to get it copied–in cashmere! This wrap coat is definitely a great staple in any wardrobe with its timeless style. The problem was I couldn’t find it anywhere!

I have no idea where the coat is; it will probably show up one of these days. I can’t imagine that I gave it away solely on the fact that it was becoming too worn, so I look forward to the day it reveals itself. In the meantime, I used these photos from this blog post to have the tailor in Shanghai copy it. In addition I had two more made for each of my sisters. This wrap coat is a winner, and I can’t believe how well the tailor copied the coat just from pictures!

What style of coat would you have remade if your one copy became too worn (or you lost it!)?
