Finding Creativity

I know, I know, I keep moaning about creativity and how I just don’t have any lately. But then, I realized, my whining about it has got to stop. Rather I need to do something about it. Creativity is something to work at. Yes, sometimes it’s easy and creative thoughts just come rushing in, but at other times, finding a creative thought can be laborious and downright frustrating. It’s at this time when I believe forgiveness and patience are key.

Therefore, slow down Ann! Look around. Watch people. Read. Admire what you see. Take things in. Color. Cook. Sit. Walk. Creativity is like a river with similar ebbs and flows. If I’m in an ebb, well so be it; it is okay. It was this past weekend when I finally forgave myself for not having much creativity. First, I got dressed up–like out of my sweats. I started with my trusty cowboy boots and the outfit took off from there.

Then I ventured with Remota (my affectionate name for the tripod/camera/remote configuration that takes my pictures) and found a set of stairs. Rather than just posing for the sake of posing, I attempted some conversations with myself. Perhaps you can hear me saying, “Annie, take it easy on yourself.” Or, “Annie, don’t take yourself so seriously. Come on. Where’s the happy-go-lucky you?”

At any rate, I had a great time getting dressed, taking these shots, and then editing them. And if anything, despite creativity being difficult to access, once I find it, I better be having fun!

PS I also created multiple Annie’s in this post long, long ago in the Yunnan Province, China.
