Chinese New Year Adjustments

Chinese New Year is a very fun celebration–especially if you live in Asia. Everywhere, everything, and everyone is red! The red is very significant: it brings good luck.

However, unfortunately Hong Kong is yet to receive a break and could use some good luck right about now. With 8 cases of the Wuhan Virus (Coronavirus), in Hong Kong, the EDB (Education Department Bureau) of HK went ahead and closed schools until February 17. This means two more weeks of no school! The poor students need their school days. While a snow day, is fun–especially when one gets to go play in the snow–two weeks of quarantined life in a small apartment sounds claustrophobic.

So, what did we do? We left for Thailand where I’m presently writing this blog post by the pool. (This may also explain the delay in my posting here on Kremb de la Kremb.) This spontaneous trip may mean we don’t travel at spring break; however who knows if we’ll even have a spring break. The students may end up needing to make up missed school days. Everything is up in the air–including our lodging tomorrow night!

We bought the tickets to Bangkok on Monday. We left on Tuesday. While in the HK airport Kevin found a hotel for us that night. Then this morning before our flight to Krabi he did it again: he found a perfect little hotel for tonight. We don’t know where we’re staying tomorrow night, but that’s no biggie. We’ll figure it out day by day.

It’s true: Kevin and I are very spontaneous. We both see a chance for something and take it. We also both love to travel–it’s how we met after all. So here we are living day to day in Thailand. We’d rather be quarantined on the beach than in our tiny apartment.

Stay healthy!! It’s definitely flu season. Oh, and wash your hands often–that’s the best prevention.
