Ballerina Wannabe 1
Every now and then, I write a post that I think Independent Fashion Bloggers will really appreciate, so I submit it to Links á la Mode. That was the case with the very raw and open post I wrote a few weeks. I admitted to being my happy-go-luck self, but I also confessed to some serious chronic pain that I was experiencing. Luckily, and already, the pain is so much better. I still have pain, but now it’s the pain caused from using muscles that have been utilized in a long time. I’m actually experiencing DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), and even though it hurts, there’s a little bit of me that’s enjoying the pain because it means my muscles are actually working! To date, I made it to work this morning and am walking the library floor without a crutch. If I leave the house to the city–like we did yesterday for a movie–then I bring one crutch. I feel and see forward movement and this is good. Also, of good news….my post was chosen for Links á la Mode.

17th Links á la Mode

Links á la ModeUsually my outfit posts don’t make it into IFB’s Links á la Mode. It’s ok; I’m not too bothered by it. I just keep trying. Last week I put a lot of work into my 4 X 4 Snake Print, so I gave it a shot and submitted it to the Links á la Mode. Guess what!? IFB chose one of my style posts!! Yes, I will say, I’m pretty excited about this!

16th Links á la Mode

Like last time, when I have a post that I think we’ll make it into the Links á la Mode on Independent Fashion Bloggers, I submit it. Since I rarely voice my opinions on this blog, I thought I should submit Monday’s post about how strongly I believe in saying “please” and “thank you.” Well, it was chosen! Please and thank you very much IFB. You guys are the best and have created such a dynamic blogging community!

14th Links á la Mode

Last week I wrote about a twist on a trend that’s going strong–the culotte but now in denim. It was understandable that this trouser would next become popular in the form of a jean. I submitted my “Denim Culottes Dressed Up and Down” to Independent Fashion Bloggers’ Links á la Mode, and they chose one of my posts for the second week in a row! I love being connected by this power house of a site helping bloggers to become better bloggers. This is my 14th time! See all the others by clicking here.

13th Links á la Mode

In August, I posted about all the ways I’d broken this ridiculous list of things a woman over 30 should not wear. It was really, a very silly list, and I was able to find a way in which I had broken the list in some way or other pretty often. Recently I submitted it to Independent Fashion Bloggers Links á la Mode–who have a whole new sleek design by the way. They chose it! And they even quoted me!! Special thanks needs to be given to Catherine of Not Dressed As Lamb for starting the whole #iwillwearwhatilike anti-age style revolution!

With so much focus on fashion designers, celebrities, models, and of course all you fabulous fashion bloggers, it’s easy to get a case of the have-not’s and poor-me’s.

This week several IFB bloggers showed how to look chic while not breaking the bank. Between the Racks in particular is described as having a passion and addiction to shopping for designer on a budget, but i’d call it a gift. Others, search out trends like studio 54 glamour from favorite moderate retailers. While another, talks about editing and refining her current wardrobe. The budgeting continued on with beauty posts, and one blogger has a routine post of “Third Thursday Thrifts.”

There were also wonderful pointers on how to dress for one’s size, shape, and age. The latter isn’t exactly what you’d expect.

My favorite quote, “This one is gonna kill the author.” Please everyone, go find it.

The Fab 40s in Jumpsuits

jumpsuitsJumpsuits were the chosen theme for this month’s collab with The Fab 40s. Last month we all wore marsala in our own way–I chose the sequin Christmas shift I picked up in Bali over our winter holidays. With jumpsuits having a serious moment this spring, I chose it as our theme. I’ve always loved a jumpsuit–especially this oldie but goodie I picked up in Bangkok. For this month it’s been fun to see how the other Fab 40s would style this theme plus I’ve really enjoyed getting to know these great ladies. I’m astounded by some of the really great friendships I am making via connections made online. I think this ability to make relationships from afar is really special, and I’m enjoying meeting and connecting with so many great people around the world! Now, enough of that… go check out how each of us styles a jumpsuit.

Jane of Midlife Fashion
I love how Jane’s look is utterly classy yet the jacket adds a bit of boho. And her shoes compliment the pattern on the jacket perfectly. While I haven’t tried Jane’s jumpsuit on, it just looks super comfortable!

Outfit Details:

Jumpsuit: Wallis
Jacket: Mango
Necklace: bought in Majorca
Bracelets: Ashiana
Shoes: New Look

Dawn Lucy of Fashion Should Be Fun
Dawn’s jumpsuit is actually pretty boho, so I love how she brought in some classiness with the jacket. I also admire that her jumpsuit is also from Forever 41–op I meant 21! Then look how she added a nude shoe; this totally compliments the whole look.

Outfit Details:

Jumpsuit: Forever 21
Jacket: H&M
Bag: Carlos Santana
Shoes: Michael Shannon
Necklace: Kohls

Dixie of Inside Outer Style
I might have to say I like this styling of a jumpsuit best…can you guess why? Yep, simple–denim paired with leopard. Ahh, such a perfect combo. Plus, the denim is so dressy even though denim is usually associated with casualness.

Outfit Details:

Jumpsuit: Zara
Shoes: Vince Camuto
Belt: Jcrew
Cutch: Thrifted
Necklace: Mango
Sunnies: Betsy Johnson

Sheela from Sheela Writes
I love Sheela’s jumpsuit! It’s so fun and wild. It looks super comfortable. I can envision summer nights in this cute jumpsuit. While I haven’t met Sheela in person, I think I gravitate towards her style choices so much because she reminds me of my good friend Weda: bright colors and fun patterns are Sheela’s friend just like Weda’s.

Outfit Details:

Jumpsuit: Indie label
Shoes: Wild Diva
Rings: Poshmark
Palm Cuff: Jenny Bird

And Me!
For my styling, I went with this super comfy faux denim–is there such a thing?–jumpsuit. (Upon looking it up it actually called a mineral wash…) It’s like indigo t-shirt material, and it’s beyond cozy. This jumpsuit is definitely coming to the cabin with me this summer. I just went with my simple suede cowboy boots and gold. When I’m not sure how to accessorize, I usually resort to gold. Easy peasy! (Ironically the last time I styled a jumpsuit, I also accessorised with gold!)

11th Links á la Mode

I’ve made Links á la Mode 11 times!! Sometimes when I write a post, I just have a feeling it will definitely make it into Independent Fashion Bloggers’ Links á la Mode. I was correct: my post about the bag with the worst wrap–the one about the awesome fanny pack–was chosen!

9th Links á la Mode

This is the 9th time I’ve made Links á la Mode! And the second time they chose my picture as the features; there’s my mom from my “Going Grey” article. I told her she’s famous (not really) in an anonymous way!links a la mods

Fashion Shades of Grey

Fashion month has come and gone. What have we learned? IFB bloggers found celebrations of motherhood, diversity, and technology, as well as fear of empty spaces (!) on the runway. OK maybe that last one’s not a celebration, but interesting nonetheless. We also celebrated our amazing mothers, color trends for spring, wedding inspiration, and more. Peruse the best of the week below!

8th Links á la Mode

For the new year, I’ve decided to restructure things a bit on the blog–basically giving myself direction as I write each day. On Tuesdays, I want to try to connect to others in some way, and to start this last Tuesday I wrote a gift guide for my four really good Indian girlfriends who are celebrating their birthdays this January. Links á la Mode from IFB liked it and chose to feature it this last week. This is my 8th time being chosen! (Look at these other posts that have made it: 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1.)

Real Style Essentials

What do you really need for good style? The answer could be, “More clothes.” But we know better. It’s about knowing what you wear. It’s about finding your self, not your clothing self, but your real self. It’s about taking care of yourself. It’s about feeling good in your own skin. This week’s roundup is about the real essentials you need to be stylish. Whether it be your skin, what’s under that skin, or what you’re wearing to cover it.
