Style Story: I’m a Norbyah

I’m dedicating this post to introducing my HK blogger friend and colleague, Norbyah of I’m a Norbyah. Norbyah is the quintessential inspiration when it comes to recycled clothing. She is an absolute expert at revitalizing clothing–especially vintage and second hand items. Like me Norbyah received some samples from the Get Redressed Pop-up. Once she put on these two pieces she looked instantly put together; the trick here is simply tying the blouse into a makeshift crop top, but the high waist of the skirt doesn’t leave too much for the imagination. If you browse through either Norbyah’s blog or Instagram feed, you will see it’s flush with all sorts of quirky and fun clothing that’s definitely been given new life. Finally, the signature of Norbyah has got to be the head scarf; she has an amazing collection of vintage scarves. I wonder how many you have Norbyah? While in these pics she’s dawning a hat, one look at her style pics on her blor or in her Insta feed, and you’ll realize she knows how to tie a tie! It was super fun taking these pics of Norbyah: her smile is contagious!

*This top and skirt on Norbyah will be available at the Get Redressed Pop-up event at the Pizza Express in Wan Chai from 11:30-9:00 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

  1. Oh wow Ann I had know idea you even knew Norbyah – let alone worked with her!! I mean, I know you’re both in HK but it’s not exactly a village where everyone knows everyone else, is it…?!

Norbyah is one of my favourite finds through the #iwillwearwhatilike campaign – I totally agree with you about her magic way with headscarves and how she pulls off gorgeous vintage pieces. How lovely that you know each other!! Thank you so much for featuring her :))

    1. Hahha! Yea, I’ve known Norbyah for over three years now. We work at the same international school in Hong Kong. Catherine, Norbyah’s style is insane. And believe me when I say she wears a scarf just about every single day! When I first got here, I tried one out in my hair, but it just didn’t work for me. I felt so hot! I’ll have to tag both you and Norbyah in that scarf tie attempt!

It is a small world isn’t it!? And actually, Hong Kong is physically quite small. So, it’s pretty common to routinely run into people no matter where you are!

Would you ever consider a visit? You’d have two great hosts….!

      Love, Ann

  2. What a great outfit and a lovely post introducing Norbyah. How lovely to find someone who loves scarves as much as I do so I shall definitely check her out for inspiration. I’m beginning to get better at redressing clothes and scourcing preloved and I’ve managed to get some lovely jewellery and bags through thrifting.

    1. Awesome!! I’m so happy to connect you to another scarf lover. I try to love them, but in my hair I always get hot! And around my neck I do love to tie a scarf, but I usually get self conscious of my chin! :S I’m trying to give the more of a shot though–especially for the upcoming cooler months in Hong Kong.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting Petite Vix.

      Love, Ann

    2. Thanks so much! Yes, I think I probably have too many scarves. I come back with vintage scarves every summer….so flattered that you’d look to me for inspiration. I find that with redressing clothes and thrifting, it’s a lot of trial and error and then eventual success. You’ll begin to know where to look, when is best, and all that with experience. My experience with places like Goodwill, etc is to browse through frequently and you’ll learn when they put new things out. Also, don’t be afraid to ask about things, too…the people who work at charity shops are incredibly helpful.

    1. Oh good! I love finding new ones too. This blogging community is just so kind. That’s what I think I’m liking best out of it! Like, (virtually) meeting you. I think it might have been through Elegantly Dressed and Stylish. Were you featured there once? All I can remember is yellow–I think. I’ll have to go look. At any rate, I’m happy to have been connected with you Johann! Love, Ann

    2. Nice to ‘meet’ you Johanna. I do love a good print or two. My fave is of course the polkadot. That one gets mixed in regular rotation. xo

  3. What a lovely women. Perfect mouth and she has a dimple. My theory is that people with dimples in their cheek are approached in a more friendly way. Because they themselves always seem to smile. It is a theory, but still… could be true.

    1. Greetje, you’re so sweet. I can’t tell you how insecure I used to be about my mouth as a younger child. I always thought mine was too big. And, these days my dimples are expanding (hehe!) Ann captured me in a real laugh, so that much is genuine. Lovely to meet you and thanks for your kind words.

      1. Such a shame we all suffered so much because of insecurities shen we were younger. At least that is a huge improvement with getting older. I am beginning to appreciate my body and looks a lot more. Even more since I blog.
As for your mouth… Julia Roberts has her career thanks to her mouth. Although I think yours is nicer. More round.
