I love my black culottes! They’re super versatile. I usually wear them dressed up–like here for a Chinese festival or here with polka dots. While they’re easy to dress up, they also make for a perfect casual trouser. Just throw on a tee and some Chucks and I’m set.

Did you spot my little photo bomber/poser behind me in these pics? She’s a cutie for sure!

Now check out how I easily just swapped out a pretty embroidered blouse and a pair of heels and turned my casual culottes into a dressy look. All the ingredients were in the knapsack in the pics above proving that culottes easily go from dressed down to dressed up–lickity split!


Even though this pic is fuzzy, I had to include it. My art director, Gigi, had me throwing flowers for this final shot.

If you’re thinking about trying this trend out, (which I highly recommend you do!) I think you should go with a black pair.

  1. I tried on – but didn’t buy – a pair of brown, faux-seude culottes at H&M last weekend, dearest Ann…now I’m wishing I’d made the purchase!! Talk about versatile; you’ve managed a total casual to cocktail-party-ready turnaround just. like. that.!! (Maybe brown suede wouldn’t be QUITE so easy to dress up…but you’ve definitely got me thinking!!) XOXO

    1. Oooh, I think I know the ones you’re talking about, AND yes, you could totally dress those up! Think gold sequins or silky up top…. Or a black tube top…. You better go back and get them. I’ll be waiting to see! A x

  2. I am not sure I am ready for cutouts yet. I have an old pair that I wore a couple of weeks ago (they were very tight since I’ve gained some weight) and not sure I want to invest in a pair yet. I love both ways you’ve worn it and making think they are more useful than I think they are.

    1. I love ’em. Mine are SUPER old though. And lucky for me they do fit me right now–not always the case. I’m trying to figure out another color but I don’t know which way to go. Any suggestions? <3 A
