In a working blender (Sandy’s broke during the first batch, but that didn’t hold us back!), fill halfway with ice, a quart of vanilla ice cream, 3/4 cup gin, and 1 1/4 cup creme de cacoa. Blend and until frothy (or until the blender breaks!) and serve. Yum! Scrumptialiscious!

Grandma Soogie’s Cinnamon Rolls

Grandma Soogie's Cinnamon Rolls

All of us in my family have always looked forward to Grandma Soogie’s Cinnamon Rolls that accompanied these three holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. It was the only three times a year that these delicious buns were served. One year, before Grandma lost the ability to write, I had her put the pen to paper and detail the recipe of her famous cinnamon rolls. Since then, I’ve been making them every Thanksgiving for friends every year. They ARE ALWAYS a hit! And everyone wants Grandma Soogie’s Cinnamon Roll recipe! Here it is below in her hand (and further down typed out).

The Girl Who Played Go, by Shan Sa

This blog is usually reserved for Kremb de la Kremb family updates, but I do have to share what I just read–I am a librarian after all, so it’s only fitting, right? I finished The Girl Who Played Go this morning by Shan Sa. Oh! It was just beautiful and magestic and tragic all at once. I love reading a great book that leaves me feeling so moved. Put this one on your reading list!

The short chapters bounce back and forth between a young teenage Chinese woman and a stoic utterly patriotic Japanese soldier like a game of go during the Manchurian war of the 1930. The love story that evolves between these two strangers is quite tender. Their were moments in this story where I wanted a highlighter similar to my university readings just to underline the beautiful images like this one: ”

I’ll be excited to revisit this book again, and I’ll be waiting to discuss it with someone….

Lakeside Great Wall, Round 2

We all went for a hike today at the Lakeside Great Wall. It was so nice and fresh out there. We’ve been having fun going on hikes as often as we can. Here are some pics from the hike.

Tea Party for Gigi

I pretty much read Tea for Ruby to Gigi, oh, about 4 times a week. So, when I went to plan out her small little birthday party, I figured a tea party might go over well…It did!
