Christmas Shopping with Kremb de la Kremb

ChristmasShoppingwithKdlKIt’s November 28, the day after Thanksgiving. Oh, but it is so much more! Today is Black Friday–the day after Thanksgiving in which the holiday shopping season may officially begin. I’ve actually never witnessed a Black Friday since I live abroad, but I can only imagine the frenzy. Then, on December 1st, it will be Cyber Monday, the one day out of the year with the highest amount of online purchases made!

Breaking Thanksgiving Traditions

ChristmasBooksThere’s a Thanksgiving tradition that got broken this year: we put the tree up early! Usually Kevin is highly against this, but a special arrangement was made since a) we won’t be in Hong Kong for the actually turkey day and b) we had a chance to have our Hong Kong cousins over to decorate the tree. We feel so lucky to have family here! I mean how awesome is it that we get to see relatives often–and now even more with my sister Mary in Shanghai. We usually put the tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving. One tradition that wasn’t broken–the kids adorned the tree!

Shanghai Blogger Roundup

ShanghaiBloggerRoundupOne of the best sources for understanding a city is turning to its bloggers. We’ll be leaving for Shanghai tonight to visit my sister Mary who lives and works up there. (Yay to being with family for Thanksgiving!) Last time I visited I made a Shanghai musts post; this time round I’ve created a Shanghai Blogger Roundup. Following are my finds covering bloggers of fashion, food, and expat living:

My Five ~ Short Hair Dos

NewHair2 The last time I wrote about my five hair dos was after I had stopped using shampoo for six months. While that “do” for my hair is still the same, I’ve got a new set of must hair dos now that my hair is short.

Cornucopia

Cornucopia10When I saw this skirt ages ago, I knew it would be a perfect addition for my November wardrobe. The flowers are so autumnal with their oranges and greens and stand out set in a mirrored arrangement on navy blue. The skirt is like a cornucopia. The elastic waste band is also helpful for a Thanksgiving meal. For chillier weather this skirt could easily be paired with cognac knee high boots. For me, I finally got my hands on a pair of these heels that I had been coveting from Shalice Noel’s impeccable style.

Nordstrom Gift Guide: for the Hosts

Often times when I go to someone’s home, Kevin and I will simply bring a bottle of wine. That’s pretty common practice. Yet, during the holiday season, it’s nice to add a little something to the gift. I’ve created this host gift guide–all from Nordstrom again. Hey! They have free shipping!! You could choose a couple of these items and order in bulk depending on how many parties you have this season.

Fix The Internet

Sure, none of us can unsee the madness that KimK launched on the Internet… but we can certainly get on with our lives. Especially since the holidays are in full swing and, quite honestly, we’re busy! Do you want to try the turtleneck thing? Are you gearing up for January resolutions by figuring out what you want out of life? Or do you just want to get out of town for a day? Whatever it is… enough with breaking the internet… let’s get to fixing up our lives.

Thanksgiving Roundup

SoundOfMusic poster 2Thanksgiving is just under a week away. We are super excited for two reasons this Thanksgiving: first we actually have the day off. This will be the first time in our 18 years of teaching overseas that we get the holiday! Second, we will be with family! We are visiting my sister Mary in Shanghai. To me when I think of the proper Thanksgivings I had as a child, I have transported back to a couple of very distinct memories: Grandma Soogie’s Cinnamon Rolls served at the meal–not as dessert, all my cousins playing together, my Grandpa Bumps, my dad carving the Turkey, and The Sound of Music played post meal each year. I’ve actually never made a turkey–it’s on my bucket list–so you won’t find any recipes on this Thanksgiving Roundup. However if I were to host a T-day, I’d be referring to a bunch of these links for other purposes:

My Five ~ How to Host a SWAP

ClothingSwapLast night I hosted my first Kremb de la Kremb SWAP. I learned a few things along the way, so I thought I’d share–just in case you too want to get some people in your community together to exchange your old for their new.
